Creepy Critter Cardi

Let’s be honest, bugs aren’t very popular amongst us humans, I for one can’t stand spiders! But I do love butterflies, and moths, and a few other critters actually. And bees are a vital part of life, and if you kinda squint a bit, a lot of them can be quite cute, right? Right?
Well, at any rate, the creepy crawlies on these cardigans are quite sweet, and the offset stripes and contrasting colours are a fun addition to any little one’s wardrobe.
Hand knit in acrylic yarn, with a selection of six different felt creatures which are attached with a snap fastener, so they can be removed prior to washing. Felt doesn’t much like being in the washing machine, so make sure to remove it and if necessary, wipe clean with warm water and a little bit of soap and dry thoroughly before reattaching.

While acrylic fibres can release microplastics into the environment, wool and cotton yarns aren’t always the best choice for items meant for babies and toddlers. Wool fibres are brittle and easily broken. These wool fibres can then be inhaled and settle in the lungs causing breathing problems for very young children. Cotton is great for light weight clothing made for warmer weather, but it is quite rough against sensitive skin compared to acrylic and blended yarns designed for babies. To help combat the problem of microfibres I would suggest washing clothes made with acrylic yarn in a laundry bag to catch the fibres.
