Bird Sculpture, Copper-Leafed Jesmonite on Driftwood, One of a Kind — Dew & Heather

Dew & Heather — a pair of nesting birds, cast in jesmonite and finished by hand with copper mica detailing, forming a small sculpture that rests together on a natural wood log base flecked with copper leaf and dressed with dried moss, dyed a deep heather purple.

This one-off sculpture was inspired by the nesting birds on the croft, and by the low morning sun catching the dew across the ground — the copper markings echoing that light. The moss reflects the woodland floor at the foot of the croft, while its purple hue nods to the heather covering the hills above.

Each bird is finished in a soft slate grey with copper mica speckled across the wings and touched along the beak, giving the sculpture real depth as the light changes. The log base has been left with its natural bark and grain intact, highlighted with copper leaf, so every mark and knot is unique to this particular piece of wood.

As a one-off sculpture, this exact piece will not be recreated. Similar birds may be made in future, but this particular combination of copper detailing, moss and log is one of a kind. A lovely addition to a mantelpiece, windowsill or console table, and a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves birds, gardens or the quiet detail of country life.
